After getting optioned back to Triple-A Sacramento last Sunday, Christian Arroyo started off his second stint with the River Cats with a bang.
The 22-year-old San Francisco Giants prospect smacked a two-run home run in his first at-bat on Monday. He also walked twice and scored a second run, helping Sacramento to a 7-3 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies.
After going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday’s contest, he went 3-for-5 with a run batted in and a run scored in the third game of the series versus Fresno. The RBI came on a two-out single in the fifth inning in what turned out to be a 6-5 loss.
Arroyo was out of the lineup on Thursday and Friday, then returned on Saturday against the Reno Aces, finishing 1-for-4. He went 1-for-5 on Sunday.
The shortstop by trade started at that position four straight games after playing third base on Monday. In 21 games with the River Cats, Arroyo is hitting .417 with seven doubles, four homers, 15 RBI and 18 runs scored. The 2013 first-round pick hit .192 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 34 games with the Giants.
Bronson Arroyo started for the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday in a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. He got his fifth no-decision of the season, throwing 5 2/3 innings and giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out four.
So far this season, the 40-year-old right-hander and former All-Star has gone 3-4 with a 6.25 earned run average over 12 starts, continuing his comeback after not pitching in the Majors the past two years due to injury. He has pitched better over his last three starts, all no-decisions, compiling a 4.86 ERA. During that span, he has struck out 10 batters against four walks over 16 2/3 innings.
