Collaboration of local and out of state law enforcement agencies on Friday Jan. 12, 2018 led to the arrest of 46-year-old Christopher Cruz Olivo of Spring Hill, FL, a suspect in a triple homicide in Louisville, Kentucky. The Louisville Metro PD say the murders took place sometime Thursday evening Jan. 11, 2018. Olivo is listed as residing on Jason Rd. in Spring Hill.
Olivo is charged with murdering a man and two women while inside a residence in the 6400 block of Venango Drive in Louisville, Kentucky. Family members of one of the victims, Katherine Miles, 23, found the bodies while checking up on the family since they weren’t able to get ahold of them.
When the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department (LMPD) arrived, they found two children inside the home unharmed: a 4 year old boy and a 2 year old girl in the bedroom according to Lt. Emily McKinley of the LMPD. The bedroom door was closed and the children were inside their cribs.
The three shooting victims were identified as 39 year old Geneva Miles, her brother 27 year old Mike Miles and his wife, 23 year old Katherine Miles. The two children inside the home were the son and daughter of Mike and Katherine. They had been in their cribs for at least 12 hours by the time law enforcement arrived.
The LMPD responders fed the children and changed their diapers. McKinley said that it was difficult to remove the children from the home so that they would not see the “horrific scene just outside their door.”
McKinley described how an officer distracted the four year old by pretending to be Iron Man, draped sheets over him as an invisibility shield and quickly carried the boy out of the house. They played hide and go seek with the two year old- draping a blanket over her as well.
The LMPD investigation identified Olivo as a suspect as he and Geneva had a child in common, a two year old daughter. The couple never married, but had been together for a while.
Geneva, Chris and their two year old daughter moved to Louisville a few months ago and had been staying with her brother and his family.
The LMPD learned that Olivo fled the scene and both he and his two year old daughter were missing. They initiated the Amber Alert process in Kentucky and simultaneously found that the vehicle Olivo fled the scene in was equipped with OnStar technology.
OnStar was able to locate the car in the Spring Hill, FL area. “This is when some amazing police work and communication began,” said McKinley.
She said that the LMPD had Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and OnStar on speaker phone and they were able to direct local law enforcement to Olivo’s location, which took about 30 to 40 minutes. During this time Olivo crossed into Pinellas County. HCSO informed the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office of Olivo’s whereabouts and they were able to take him into custody at US 19 North and Ulmerton Road at 10:13 PM on Jan. 12.
The Pinellas County Violent Crimes Task Force reported that Olivo was wearing a ballistic vest and had an AK-47 assault rifle on the passenger seat of his vehicle at the time of his arrest. McKinley stated that authorities do not believe this to be the murder weapon.
“At this time we are unsure of what his intentions were or what his plan was, however our hats are off to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department for taking our call and acting swifty and precisely in an extremely dangerous situation,” McKinley said.
While locating Olivo, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate Olivo’s two year old daughter with family.
Olivo was transported to the Pinellas County Jail on the LMPD warrant and will be charged by LMPD with three counts of Murder and one count of Tampering With Physical Evidence. McKinley said other charges may be added down the road. She commented that federal charges are a possibility. The investigation is ongoing. LMPD investigators have traveled to Pinellas to conduct interviews with the suspect.
