Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a reported residential structure fire at 15500 Wilson Blvd in Masaryktown today (9-4-16) at approximately 12:40a.m. Upon arrival fire crews found a home fully involved in fire. They quickly began a coordinated fire attack to ensure that all occupants in the home were safe and the fire would be contained to the structure and not spread from the home. Crews discovered the residents evacuated the home safely. No loss of life occurred.
HCFR responded to the scene with 3 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 rescues, 2 water tankers and 2 battalion chiefs with a total of 19 personnel. One of the challenges faced by fire crews was the lack of fire hydrants in the area. Crews rapidly deployed water tankers to the area and established water shuttle operations to aid in controlling the fire without further losses. Due to the large size of the structure and debris, fire crews continue to work on the scene with heavy equipment to fully extinguish the fire.
The home was fully involved in fire when crews arrived. Unfortunately, the home is a total loss. The cause of the fire was not readily determined by fire crews on scene. The Florida State Fire Marshals’ office was contacted. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The family, a man and woman, have been displaced. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
