The City of Brooksville Parks and Recreation offers programs for just about any age. One particular program is Tai Chi.

For the mind, body and soul; Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition. It involves a series of movements at a slow pace as well as balance and deep breathing.

Tom Dampman, Tai Chi instructor, teaches the proper movements which can be beneficial to your health.

According to the Mayo Clinic the benefits of learning Tai Chi may include:

•Decreased stress, anxiety and depression

•Improved mood

•Improved aerobic capacity

•Increased energy and stamina

•Improved flexibility, balance and agility

•Improved muscle strength and definition

TaiChi_Tom Dampman also is the instructor for the Ninjutsu self defense class being offered at Jerome Brown Community Center in Brooksville, Florida
“It’s not how much you know, it’s how well you do with what you know,” Dampman said. Dampman has been teaching martial arts for over thirty years.

The form starts with 60 moves and completing this form takes about sixty minutes. It is a slow gentle moving process and with time and practice your confidence and strength can build as well as new friendships in the group.

“The people are a riot; we have such a good time, I love teaching,” stated Dampman.

Not only does Dampman teach Tai Chi but also he teaches Ninjutsu, a Ninja art of self defense.

Classes are held at Jerome Brown Community Center on Thursday night. Tai Chi classes are from 6-7PM and only $5.00 per class. The Ninjutsu classes are from 7-8:30PM and the cost for that class is $10.00.
