Hernando County has some of the most scenic places to visit, from wildlife preserves to our own cool clear beautiful springs. Many of these places are public lands.
President Barack Obama proclaimed September 24th as National Public Lands Day and encouraged all American citizens to participate in this nationwide event.
This is the time when the nation comes together to provide a great service for our public lands, it is a day we give back.
In Hernando County, National Public Lands Day was held at Jenkins Creek Park as well as Linda Pederson Park.
At Linda Pederson Park, a small group of people with gloves and buckets in hand were ready and determined to get the park cleaned up.
“Today is a work day for our leadership group,” Cecilia Patella said. “So it’s actually the first time I had the opportunity to come out and see what a brazilian pepper looks like…(to become) more aware of where they are and how they are hurting our natural habitat.” Patella is involved with Leadership Hernando, a program through the Hernando County Chamber of Commerce.
You can help keep Hernando County Preserves, Parks and Springs clean by just leaving footprints and put trash where it belongs.
