The PHSC Athletic Director and Baseball Coach Stephen Winterling has led the program for 25 years.
The division II baseball program started in 1992 and has resulted in over 25 players exiting the program with professionally signed contracts after their sophomore year.
The Conquistadors that were signed in 1993 include Chris Cumberland of the New York Yankees and Scott Norman who signed to the Detroit Tigers. Five years ago, Zach Maxfield also signed with the Detroit Tigers l after attending PHSC and then Florida Gulf Coast University.

Fall season started on October 9 and continues until November 13 when they play at home against the Carrollwood Gators. Just like other sports at PHSC, the two year rotation has its challenges.
“It is good to see what our guys can do, that is what the fall (season) is… for them to get outside competition,” Coleman said. “For them to fail and learn from their mistake…for them to make adjustments to better their game.”
On Saturday October 22, PHSC conducted their yearly Alumni game. This is a game that a lot of former PHSC graduates look forward to. Alumni players get the opportunity to catch up and check out the new talent on the field.
“It’s very important to keep the alumni involved within the program. It’s good for these guys to get out and relive the glory days and have some fun. Most of these guys haven’t picked up a baseball in four to seven years,” said Lyndon Coleman, Assistant Coach.
“I played with a lot of these guys, I coached a lot of them and played with a lot of them, it’s just good to see them… relive the memories,” Coleman said.
Twenty freshmen are on the 2017 roster, including Weeki Wachee High graduate CJ Flaherty. Seven sophomores return to the field as well.
For the remainder of the fall schedule the focus will continue to be on refining and analyzing skill and evaluating the opposing teams they’ll face during the regular season.
