On November 2nd PHSC began their 2016-2017 season going up against Job Corp. In November 2015, PHSC defeated Job Corp 103 -52 and then 108-84 back in January of 2016. Wednesday night was a struggle to win as PHSC only led by four in the first period.
Wilchadson Charmant went up against PCJCC’s (Pinellas County Job Corps Center)  Dione Martin with starters Michael Flores, Adley Eliacin, Charles Isaac and Chris Copeland. On reserves were Ladarius Walden, Cedric Perry, Elijah McGhie and Dylan Bailey.

Freshman Adley Eliacin calls a play during Wednesday night’s game against Job Corp.

With multiple sophomore injuries (Gabriel Steele, Destin Dunton, Kendall Hicks and Edin Spijodic) that occurred during the scrimmages, first year players had to step in and bring their best game.
“We got a lot of freshmen,” Coach Michael Jones said. “Michael Flores and Adley Eliacin, those guys are 5’7 and 5’10, they really helped us a lot; they filled the gap for those guys that aren’t in.”
Sophomore Charles Isaac dominated the first period, but with physical strains from first period play, Isaac slowed down in the second half. Freshmen Adley Eliacin, Cedric Perry and Michael Flores regained the court momentum during the second period along with Freshman Wilchadson Charmant retrieving rebounds.
“I was really nervous from all the scrimmages,” Freshman Michael Flores said. He pushed passed his nervousness and executed more control over courtside and managed better discipline with rebounds during the second period. “It’s a lot different (from high school); the game’s way faster and more physical,” Micheal said.
After a steady second period against Job Corp, PHSC landed the win at 97 – 85.
PHSC traveled to Johnson University in Kissimmee, Florida on November 3.  Back in November of 2015 PHSC took a 23 point lead over Johnson University Suns with a 81-58 as their final score, however in February 2016  the team took a 6 point loss; 82-76 on their home court.
Thursday night’s game, PHSC took home a loss against Johnson University 84-76.
