The school board is still in negotiations on the Superintendent’s contract. They have also been working since June on developing a survey in order to evaluate the superintendent. It was decided by the board not to tie the survey to the Superintendent’s contract.
The previous survey was flawed according to school board members, as well as Dr. Romano. Additionally, all agree that the survey referred to as a “360” evaluation could be a powerful and helpful tool.
Council member Susan Duval selected questions from various national organizations. Dr. Romano expressed concern over whether or not the questions “will elicit helpful information.” She emphasized her experience in survey development and said that it is important to pilot the questions before they are sent out to employees.
At the informal meeting on December 8th, Dr. Romano stated, “We owe it to ourselves to develop an instrument that is going to give us valid and reliable results.”
The survey would be one tool within a larger toolbox for school board members to use in evaluation of Dr. Romano’s performance as Superintendent. Ultimately the results of the survey can be weighted and interpreted differently by school board members.
The board agreed at the December 8th informal meeting to go over individual questions through a workshop, directed by Dr. Romano early next year.
