Assistant County Administrator Ron Pianta brought three items on the Unified Rezoning Agenda, and all were approved with no comment from the BOCC. The first was to change zoning from Industrial use to Corporate Park along Anderson Snow Road and Corporate Boulevard, a change that will be more conducive to the planned church across the street. The second was to change zoning from C-1 to C-2 on US Highway 19 near Sealawn Drive. The third zoning change was to allow the property owner to change the zoning from office professional to office professional with one C-1 use for a “comparison goods store” on Spring Hill Drive.
However, the Standard Rezoning Agenda was heated due to the Master Plan revision petition brought by the Glen Lakes Partnership. At issue was the recommendation for a fire buffer and wildfire protection zone. The original recommendation from Planning and Zoning was for a 100 foot buffer along the property line, while the developer asked for a reduction to 25 feet, citing that a similar property was not required to have even a 30 foot buffer when the BOCC heard that petition in November 2015. Commissioner Nick Nicholson was adamant that the 100 foot buffer should remain, recalling the fires in the area a few years ago. The applicant asked for a postponement of the decision, and the matter was sent back to Planning and Zoning.
