The Rising Sun Bistro opened its doors in June 2014 by Criss Holzaepfel and Catherine Reeves. Since then they have built a large following and a successful business. Rising Sun always uses fresh ingredients and locally sourced when available. When we stopped by, they had strawberries from JG Ranch on Wiscon Road. They also get beautiful lettuce for their salads from Auro Community Gardens. They carry local wines from Strong Tower Winery and others. Criss makes homemade soaps with essential oils that she places in the restrooms. Local bands such as Bill Creel/Joe Solomon, Local Harmony, Heather Gillis, and Kat and Bubba Russ entertain diners Thursday through Saturday evenings.

Located in Historic downtown Brooksville, the Rising Sun Bistro embraces the rich history of its location. Old photos of Brooksville are beautifully reprinted and stretched on large canvases throughout the restaurant.

You’ll never get bored with their fare because their dinner menu changes weekly. We visited for lunch which was overall very good. The reuben was quite a large sandwich and very tasty. The chicken dumpling and creamy tomato soup were rich and flavorful. Their Caesar salad was authentic. We do look forward to stopping by one evening for dinner and some entertainment.
