Hernando County Emergency Management is monitoring the development of Tropical Depression 9 in the extreme southwestern Gulf of Mexico. This system is expected to move west-northwest over the next few days, and bring excessive rainfall to Hernando County on Wednesday and Thursday.
The National Hurricane Center is forecasting this depression to become a tropical storm in the next 24 to 36 hours.
Residents who live in low lying areas are encouraged to monitor the weather closely, and to consider making preparations to protect their property. If needed, sand and sandbags may be purchased at local home improvement stores.
In addition, a limited supply will also be available to residents starting today, Monday, August 29, 2016, at Hernando County Fire Station #1 located at 1479 Parker Avenue Spring Hill, FL 34606. Sand and sandbags will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please bring your own shovel to use.
