Susan Duval pulled an item from the consent agenda for discussion relating to a temporary staffing agreement between Spherion Staffing LLC and the Hernando County School Board.
The temporary staffing agreement would create opportunities for students to work part time for local businesses who are clients of Spherion Staffing. The temporary staffing agreement specifies Barette Outdoor Living as the client. Dr. Austin, Supervisor over secondary programs stated that they will be trying to recruit local businesses to participate in the program.
She also said that they will be monitoring students to make sure they are meeting the expectation of that employer as well the attendance requirement. A combination of the CTE (Career Technical Education) teacher for the program and the teacher who refers the student will monitor. Students must work a minimum number of hours to earn credit through the work experience course number and they must maintain the 2.0 GPA graduation requirement in order to participate in the program.
Average compensation is $12 per hour but depends on the position they are placed in Dr. Austin said. She also said that compensation would be decided following an interview with the business.
“Feb. 15 we’ll be meeting with businesses in the community, to advertise and encourage (them)… to participate in our internship program. Our goal is to invite 125 businesses in our community and hopefully anywhere between 10-30 will come in on that day to begin an internship program with the district,” said Dr. Austin.
The goal is to start with 5 students in the Spring. “If we place more, that would be great,” Dr. Austin remarked.
The agreement was approved 5-0.
