On May 15 Hernando Audubon Society President Mary Dowdell presented the $1000 Stephen B. Fickett scholarship to Weeki Wachee High School senior Courtney Thomas. Stephen B. Fickett played a leadership role in Hernando Audubon Society for many years. Every year Hernando Audubon Society awards this memorial scholarship to a deserving student who has shown an interest in preserving Florida’s environment and natural resources. Mike Liberton, who chairs the scholarship selection committee, praised Courtney’s efforts in leading her school’s recycling program. She plans to complete her Associate degree in science at Pasco Hernando State College before attending the University of South Florida.
