A sum of $14,142.81 was returned to the School Board from the Supervisor of Election’s Office last week. The money returned to the school board were funds designated for the Special Election held on September 8, 2015 that were never used by the elections office.
“The savings comes from several factors. First, all polling places were available on September 8th so we did not have to mail cards with a change of precinct. Second, no legal issues arose. And last, but perhaps the biggest savings was in temporary help and staff overtime. If the election had occurred one month later we would have been forced to bring in more temps to work due to other political activity happening during this time. Since the last of August the Elections Office has received approximately 10,000 initiative and candidate petitions for processing,” stated Supervisor Anderson.
Countywide statistics for the election are as follows. Supervisor Anderson’s office mailed 25,295 Vote by Mail ballots. There was a 66% return rate of the Vote by Mails. Of those voting in the Special Election: 47% were Republican, 35% Democrat, and 18% Other (Minor Party affiliation or No Party Affiliation). Precinct 54 at the Wellington had the highest voter turnout of 39.96%. The majority of voters (64%) were 61+ years of age.
