Want to explore nature in the comfort of your car? Well, we got a place that you will love. Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area (CWMA) is just 11 miles north past 50 on US 19, it’s a beautiful scenic refuge for everyone at any age to enjoy.
CWMA gives those that are unable to bike or hike the opportunity to be surrounded by wildlife and nature.
The main self-driving tour is 8-miles from the front entrance that weaves through some of the most beautiful scenic areas within the Chassahowitzka forest. It’s another place here in Hernando County that provides a great adventure at little cost.
If you are planning to visit to CWMA, first go to the website (http://myfwc.com/viewing/recreation/wmas/lead/chassahowitzka/) and download the self-guided driving tour map. Secondly plan to be there for at least two to even four hours. Driving no faster than 5 – 10 miles an hour, will give you the best experience and maybe even get a glimpse of the hawks to wild turkeys that call this place home.
