The idea behind Tech on Tap is that in Hernando County we have business and government employers that struggle to find candidates for technology positions. We also have a number of technology professionals that work remotely from their homes or in Tampa. If they lose their job they look for a job in Tampa, because they are not aware of what is available within the technology sector in Hernando County. We are doing an event at Marker 48 on Wednesday June 29 at 6pm where professionals and businesses can meet one another.
If the local technology community and supporters can network we will be aware of interesting undertakings that are happening in our area. We have businesses that are doing interesting technology outside of Hernando. The driving force behind Marker 48, Maurice and Tina Ryman, also own a technology business Complete Technology Solutions. Maurice joked that they created Marker 48 to try to retain some of technology talent they had working for them.
Marker 48 has kindly set aside the basement for us to meet in. The humour in this was not lost on us, since it is an often repeated claim that many technology professionals spend most of their time in the basement.
The idea for the “Tech On Tap” event came from a meeting of the Technology Committee at the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce. We were discussing meeting local technology professionals at events in Orlando and Tampa. We are looking for a way for the Hernando County Technology Community to meet each other. The Technology Committee has several local technology companies including Prodigy Information Technologies, Wilson Technologies, PCMD Systems, Swell Services and representative of PHSC, the Library, and County IT.
