Trap Shooting: mastering the mid air target
The Hernando Cattlemen’s Association hosted their 4th Annual Trap Shoot fundraiser on August 20th, 2016. This year the fundraiser was held at the Hernando County Sportsman Club with the help of the club’s range officers.
“This is one of our main fundraisers for the year,” Amanda Braswell said. “We have a $1000 scholarship to a local senior or college student who’s graduated from a Hernando County High School. Primarily this fundraiser is to help maintain our scholarship fund and to support our youth in agriculture in our community,” Amanda Braswell explained. Braswell has been involved with the Cattlemen’s Association for seven years and has been the Secretary for two of those seven years.
Shooting a clay target mid air with a shotgun is extremely challenging. Five shooters line up with their 12 gauge shotguns and one by one each shooter has a two shot opportunity to hit the target released by a trap machine, which whips the target out going over 40 miles an hour. Some miss and some hit spot on. Trigger timing is imperative for this sport as well as effectively using your eyes, and your brain to determine when to pull the trigger.
“It’s a sport they have fun with,” said Brian Veolberg, President of the Hernando Cattlemen’s Association.
